Header (Jade War)

I am super excited to bring to you today the review for Jade War by Fonda Lee. It is one of the most anticipated sequel this year and the biggest shoutout to Shealea for organizing this blog tour and giving me the chance to be a part of it!!

jade war

Synopsis: In Jade War, the sequel to the World Fantasy Award-winning novel Jade City, the Kaul siblings battle rival clans for honor and control over an Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis.

On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years.

Beyond Kekon’s borders, war is brewing. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. Jade, Kekon’s most prized resource, could make them rich – or give them the edge they’d need to topple their rivals.

Faced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honor aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival – and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon.

Jade War is the second book of the Green Bone Saga, an epic trilogy about family, honor, and those who live and die by the ancient laws of blood and jade.

Jade War was my most anticipated book this year after I read Jade City. I loved Jade City so much and I was sure I would love Jade War as well but this book went way above and beyond all my expectations. It was breathtakingly amazing in every aspect.

Beautiful and Intense Story

The story starts with the Kaul family some time after the events of Jade City. The story is powerful and takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It gets intense and the plot twists will render you speechless. I loved reading it and the detailing is so good that it becomes a really beautiful read.

Exceptional World Building

The world building of Jade City and Jade War is supremely amazing. The little details, the different countries, clans and all the politics and economics is all written with such precision that it is super intriguing to read it. It’s like watching a movie or a series playing in front of your eyes. The intricacies of this world are the best you will find in a book.

Top Notch Action scenes

Jade War has the best action scenes ever. The way they have been written, the intensity of those scenes and the whole characterisation is simply brilliant. You know the feeling when you watch a fight scene on television and just sit with your hands clenched, that is the exact feeling one would get while reading Jade War.

Morally Grey and Fleshed out characters

The characters are one of the best parts of this book. We see Hilo and Shae settle in their roles and Wen gets a bigger part in this book and I absolutely adored reading about her. Anden is finding his way and he is the cute cinnamon roll he is. Ayt Mada is a formidable enemy and somehow gets more cunning and manipulative. We are introduced with some new characters as well. It’s such a good experience reading about them all.The family dynamics is well explored and another amazing point about this book. The characters are varied, different and at the same time very human and flawed and this gives the narrative a realistic touch.

I recommend Jade City and Jade War with all my heart and soul. This series is one of my favourites and it is glorious. The world building, the writing and the characters are all magnificent and this book is sure to take you on a whirlwind journey. The intricate details of this book are well written and so beautiful and fun to read. You must read this series and enjoy the marvelous wonder this book is!

I thank the author and the publisher for providing me with a finished copy of the book and this has in no way affected my opinions. Big thank you to Shealea for organizing this superb blog tour and letting me be a part of it.

Fonda Lee writes science fiction and fantasy for adults and teens. She is the author of the Green Bone Saga, beginning with Jade City (Orbit), which won the 2018 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, was nominated for the Nebula Award and the Locus Award, and was named a Best Book of 2017 by NPR, Barnes & Noble, Syfy Wire, and others. The second book in the Green Bone Saga, Jade War, releases in the summer of 2019. Fonda’s young adult science fiction novels Zeroboxer (Flux), Exo and Cross Fire (Scholastic), have garnered numerous accolades including being named Junior Library Guild Selection, Andre Norton Award finalist, Oregon Book Award finalist, Oregon Spirit Book Award winner, and YALSA Top Ten Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. Fortunately, both of these experiments are lost to the world forever.

She holds black belts in karate and kung fu, goes mad for smart action movies (think The Matrix, Inception, and Minority Report) and is an Eggs Benedict enthusiast. 1. Reading Jade War was such an experience, I will remember the trauma this book left me with for the rest of my life. I got Shae so I am really winning at life. My favourite is actually Hilo though, which is half the reason why I am always two seconds away from a heart attack because his life choices are so questionable smh. Great review and thanks for making the quiz.

I wanna read I wanna read. Krisha, I can’t stop gushing about how nicely you organise your thoughts, categorising your review into the different facets of a book. I especially loved how you noticed about the grey shades of the characters, it’s something I enjoy looking at in the books I read as well. ❤️❤️❤️
