BOOKATHON SPECIAL || My Reading Origin Story \\+ 7 Book Lovers share their stories and love for books

Hello everyone! Today on the blog I am bringing you’ll a very special post. Some time back I asked few book bloggers to share their reading origin stories. To share which book/s got them into reading, when did they start reading and everything related to that. I had so much reading their stories and it bought a smile to my face reading about their love for books.

My reading origin story started when I was young. My english speaking skills were not that great so my teacher in school asked my mom to make me read more. At that time, I read fairy tales and Panchatantra stories. My true love for reading started after that (around 2nd grade) when I started reading Famous Five, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Secret Seven and Five Find Outers. I loved those books and used to always take the maximum number of books which my library would allow.

After this I started reading Agatha Christie. My first series was Harry Potter and that is how I got into fantasy genre. Harry Potter always has a special place in my heart for this reason. Soon after this, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games and The Mortal Instruments followed and then there was no looking back.

Reading Experience: Perhaps it was the introvert in me, but it’s like I saw a book and I knew we’d be best friends. Then I picked it up and started reading and I didn’t really need anything else. I could sit where I wanted, read and I could feel and see things no one around me could. In general I’m a dreamer and I love the idea of having these worlds inside and around me. Later, I found people who lived alongside me in these worlds and it’s like the love I had for my books was now such a perceivable part of my life because of these people—who like my books have given me all that I never knew I wanted.

Reading Experience: was known as a reader way before I could read a book by myself. My dad had a few books collected over the years and I liked to grab any random book and just flip through the pages. I also liked going through our encyclopedias when there was nothing to do. I wasn’t very gentle with them though (poor, torn encyclopedias) It wasn’t until 4th grade that I started reading for real. A girl in my class had a lot of RL Stine books (horror/thriller) and I eventually got the nerve to borrow one after weeks of wistfully watching others go through them. And I’ve loved reading since then.

A book/series close to your heart: Although I worshipped R.L. Stine back in the day, it wasn’t until I read The Hunger Games that really sealed my fate. That trilogy changed the way I looked at fiction, I swear. A special mention: the Maximum Ride series. It went downhill post book 3 but the books got me through the worst of high school nonetheless, hehe.

Reading Experience: Before the age of 18 I had only read a handful of books, including half the Harry Potter series. In the fifth month of being 18 my kidney started to fail due to a abscess that developed after a bladder infection moved to my kidney. I was in hospital for almost a month & at one point I nearly lost my life. This was the moment reading became a “thing” for me. I became addicted to reading whilst trying not to die & ever since books have been the one consistent thing in my life (other than my mum). Since then reading has helped me cope with my physical disabilities & my mental health issues.

A book/series close to your heart: The books that got me through my time in hospital were the Harry Potter series & The House of Night books.

Reading Experience:The earliest I can remember is being gifted a huge bunch of children’s books in English and our Indian epics in Telugu when I was around 6 years old. And I don’t think I’ve ever looked back. Other than my obsession with the Mahabharata, I also developed a huge fascination for the Famous Five series and Sherlock Holmes which continues till today. Apparently my parents were both avid readers before I was born, and my name literally means “literature”, so I guess I was almost destined to be a reader. Now my story continues with being a part of the book blogging community and I can’t be happier.

Reading Experience: My love for reading started when I was young. I was 5 years old, in kindergarden, when I learned to read. I am so lucky that both my parents encouraged me, I always had books and my mom is a reader too. We went to the library often, or I’d get books at garage sales. My first fandom was Harry Potter: I got the first four books for my 8th birthday. The next impactful series in my life was Twilight, when I was 15. I reread it so many times. It was a tough time in my life, and it helped me so much. Reading has been with me forever, and it means the absolute world to me.

Reading Experience: I’ve been a reader as long as I’ve been able to read. My fellow campers at TIP voted me “most likely to read every book in the world.” My kindergarten teacher predicted I’d be a famous author someday, b/c I would write stories even before I knew how to write. My mom had to confiscate Stranger in a Strange Land from me when I was 12.

Reading Experience:I’ve been a lifelong reader because I was surrounded by books from my infancy. To this day, everyone in my family reads – just that our tastes are different. The first book I re-read was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. A small excerpt from this book was in our 4th grade English textbook and my teacher read aloud the rest of the story to us throughout the school year. I was enchanted with books since then and this also sparked my intense love for fantasy books.
